Yolo Crisis Nursery

The Yolo Crisis Nursery (yolocrisisnursery.org) is a four-bed facility in Davis, California, that provides 24-hour care for young children (up to age 5) free of charge. This voluntary program helps parents during crisis situations. Children are able stay overnight for as little as 24 hours or for up to 30 days at a time. Emergency day respite services are available to families that need assistance but do not require overnight care for their children. Additional resources and support are available for parents to help resolve their crisis, strengthen their parenting skills, and provide a safe home for their children.

The yolocrisisnursery.org website project was a rebuild of an existing website. The original website was a single-page infinite scroll website design. The goal of this project was to rebuild the site using a multi-page design, update existing content, add additional content, and make the website a resource for parents in need and for fundraising purposes.

Website Features

The landing page for the Yolo Crisis Nursery provides quick access to the primary objectives for the website: News and Information, access to resources for parents in a crisis situation, and information for fundraising and support.

For mobile devices, a click-to-call feature is prominent on the home page. The hot-pink color lets visitors know that this is the place to go if you are in a crisis situation and need immediate assistance. There is no need to dig through multiple pages to access the feature. The path to help is prominent and clear.

As with any non-profit organization, fundraising is an important component in providing services. Access to fundraising information, donations, and volunteer support are highlighted on the landing page. This reduces the barrier to supporting the organizations and the services they provide to the community.
